I use VSO image resizer. it's a free program you can get. google it. your picture should fit when you resize it. If it was taken by a photographer, the camera has huge file sizes!
Hey! I'm a little late on the resizing thing, but here's the deal: you're photo must be 650 pixels wide, and it will automatically adjust the height (though I found it does have a minimum height, a problem that doesn't usually matter for most pictures). The annoying thing is that if you use shrink to fit, that sizes your photo to 660 wide, which is just barely wider than the border - annoying! I don't know if there's something easier, but what works for me is to set each photo to 650 pixels using Google's Picasa picture software (free).

Did you try shrink to fit? You can also resize the picture.
